FAQs
According to the American Counseling Association, counseling is defined as, "a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals."
Counseling involves helping people make needed changes in ways of thinking, feeling, and behaviors.
Usually, counseling focuses on a specific issue for a limited amount of time. Therapy can be more long-term and focuses on you as an individual
The definition of therapeutic is beneficial, restorative, and healing. We recognize that not everyone has a positive counseling experience. Our goal is to provide quality competent services that are beneficial towards improving your mental health. The counseling experience should be positive regardless of the challenges you face!
In general, the first step is to meet with a counselor who will conduct an initial intake to collect information. This can include information related to your history, current needs, strengths, supports, and other pertinent information regarding yourself and the reason for counseling.
A treatment plan will be created to set clear goals and expectation of services.
From there you will meet with your therapist weekly or bi-weekly (depending on need) to work towards the goals identified.
